Yoga Therapy FAQ
What is yoga therapy?
It is a practice that uses the tools of yoga: breathwork (pranayama), postures (asana), meditation and visualization to address physical, mental, and emotional health.
Works through one-on-one sessions, small group classes, and/or in a health care setting.
Can be practiced with a client of any ability in almost any setting (hospital bed, wheelchair, playground, on the water).
Is a practice with a yoga therapist who is trained and certified in addressing specific concerns with any of the tools above, and who knows how to assess how to keep the client safe while practicing yoga.
What is my experience with yoga therapy?
I have been certified through the International Association of Yoga Therapists after several years of classes, training, and clinical experience.
I was an "extern" at a pain clinic, using yoga therapy techniques to accompany patients through their procedures.
I teach small group therapeutic classes with youth and young adults who have Autism Spectrum Disorder.
I teach small group classes with adults who have experienced traumatic brain injuries.
I love using the tools of yoga to help people feel a little better and have some peace in their body, mind, and spirit.
